Worldwide Support
Information, services and support for UK citizens living abroad, and guidance for international individuals dealing with UK tax matters.
Living outside the UK
If you live abroad but have income from the UK (such as rental income, pension, or business operations), you may still be classified as a non-resident taxpayer. You must declare this income to HMRC annually.
Double Taxation Treaties
The UK has double taxation treaties with over 130 countries. This ensures you are not taxed twice on the same income. Depending on your country of residence, you may be eligible to apply for full or partial tax relief on UK income.
- Check the treaty status of your country of residence
- File a claim for tax relief before the end of the fiscal year
- Provide proof of tax paid in your local jurisdiction
Embassy and Consular Support
If you need immediate assistance regarding your legal status or emergency consular support, please locate your nearest British Embassy or High Commission. Note that embassies cannot accept tax payments on behalf of HMRC.
